This unit discussed many of the different types of classes you can encounter as a foreign English teacher. Through my experience I disagree with some of the material. The unit consistently says native language should not be used; however, if used in a controlled manner it can help accelerate progress and alleviate student frustrations. Care must be taken to not give in and only use the student's native language but their native language can be a tool as well. In addition it helps tremendously if you are fluent in your students' L1 as it helps to better predict and recognize some of the issues they may have in the learning process.
