Making a lesson plan is much like baking a cake: one can have all of the ingredients present, but that does not mean that the cake will leave the oven perfectly. If steps are ignored, or the icing applied before the cake has time to cool, it will result in--what is colloquially referred to as--as mess. There are numbered steps involved when starting with disparate ingredients involved with making a cake. The classwork has to flow and have a logic behind it to be helpful for the students, and manageable for the teacher. If the ingredients are simply dumped into a cake pan, it will not leave the oven with a magazine cover-worthy cake.
