This unit used two videos of demonstration classes to contrast between effective and ineffective teaching, highlight common pitfalls in teaching and how to avoid them, and demonstrate how to ensure participation and motivation of the students. I found the first class the hardest 23 minutes I have ever sat through, and found myself cringing along with the students at certain points. The contrast between it and the second class was vivid and very clear, and helped to drive home the difference that thorough preparation and organization, the use of body language and appropriate language levels, a positive, reassuring attitude, humor, etc. can make on a class's success or failure.
