Teach English in Chengdong Zhen - Shanwei Shi

This unit talks about the different kinds of special groups that I may be required to teach as an EFL teacher and a lot of techniques I can use for the individual groups as well as things to watch out for as teaching these special groups is much different then teaching a regular class. I learned that teaching beginner students is a both highly difficult, and greatly rewarding upon successfully teaching them. It is important with that with all of the special groups you still stick with speaking in English, even with the younger students as if you speak to them in English it will diminish their motivation and make them seek it out more. With business students it's important to perform a needs analysis at the start to find their specific needs but I also learned that I need to have at least a basic understanding of their business so I have a general idea of what they will be needing. Multi-lingual classes on the other hand will have English as their only common tongue so it will be easier to get them speaking among themselves using it as their language. This unit has also showed me that with beginner students visual aids are even more important than usual as they allow me to better show the students what i'm speaking about which in turn will also help to reduce the teacher talk time because having to explain it in just words would take far longer in almost every instance. With individual students I have more freedom to make a lesson plan for the individual which makes things much easier to focus on their individual needs . Though there are of course some things which can not be put into practice in a one-on-one situation.
