This unit?s focus was on the teaching of the receptive skills. The beginning of the unit explained that there are four basic skill in all languages. Those skill are broken down into two groups, receptive skills and productive skills. The productive skills consist of speaking and writing, while the receptive skill are listening and reading. This lesson was centered on reading and listening aspects. The lesson broke down into two groups the reasons why we read and listen; for a purpose and for entertainment. Then it went further by listing the different ways we read or listen, for example, we may simply skim or hear for specific detail, or we may intently read/listen so that we may understand everything in detail. The lesson continued on with describing problems that could form during the teaching of the receptive skills as well as way to help solve or prevent difficulties. Example lesson plans were also provided giving us an idea of how this difficult topic could be taught. This lesson was helpful not only because it gave me an idea of what the students will have difficulty with and why, but also how to go about teaching it successfully.
