This unit focuses primarily on receptive and productive skills. Receptive skills involve reading and listening. Productive skills involve speaking and writing. There are two different reasons for reading and listening- people read for a purpose or for entertainment. We also talked about different skills that we use when it comes to reading and listening. These include predictive skills, scanning for specific information, figuring the general idea or skimming, looking for detailed information, and making deductions from context. We also learn that balancing what information we give to students and what information we allow them to infer based on readings and listening is important.
