Conditionals are sentences that are made up of two parts, the \"if\" part and the consequence or action part. These sentences present a condition that needs to be completed (the \"if\" part) in order for something to happen due to it. They can reflect real scenarios or hypothetical ones. The problems with these sentences for the student are the changes it goes through in tenses and what they express. Direct speech and reported speech also go through a number of changes in tenses, pronouns, and time reporting. The teacher needs to review each one slowly and fully to help students understand the meaning and purpose of these sentences which are fairly common in English communication.
