In this unit we learned about four different types of present tenses: present simple, present continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous. Present simple describes what the subject is doing/not doing currently. In the affirmative form it is formed by writing the subject and then adding the base form of the word plus s or es. Present continuous has multiple uses but always has a verb with an -ing ending. Present perfect relates the past to the present. The affirmative form is the subject plus the auxillary word have plus the past participle. Finally the present perfect continuous links the past to the present by suggesting that an activity is likely to continue in the past, or that an activity was in progress for some length of time, or both. The affirmative is formed by the subject plus the auxillary verb 'have' plus 'been' plus a verb with an -ing ending.
