This unit gave an overview of the past tenses in the english language. These tenses can be summarised below: Past Simple - add d or ed to base form of verb (or didn't/did before base form for negative/question) - used for: a past action at a specific time, when time is asked about, when action happened at a time though time is not mentioned. Past Continuous - subject + was/were (+ not) + verb + ing - Used for: interrupted past actions, gradual time development that occurred in the past, to express an action that began before a past time and continued after it, and in descriptions Past Perfect - subject + had (+ not) + past participle - Used for: representing actions that occurred before other actions in the past Past Perfect Continuous - subject + had + (+ not) been + verb + ing - Used for: long time duration actions that occurred up until the past moment we are thinking of
