This unit focuses on course books and lesson materials. Some teachers love them while others despise them. Sometimes the teacher has to create his/her own materials to supplement the course book or replace sections that are not suitable for the class. Teaching materials can be divided into two groups: authentic materials (programs, magazines, songs, poems, newspapers, etc.) and created materials (word search, role-playing cards, flash cards, picture story, etc.). Most materials created by the teacher are more interesting and relevant to students than the usual course books. There are four options for course book use: omit, replace, supplement, and adapt. From this unit, I have learned that I need to always create materials for my learners since they always find them very interesting. I will also use authentic materials because they are real, interesting, and motivating.
