This unit was helpful in understanding the importance of selecting an assessment and evaluation style that compliments the goal of the assessment. For example, if a teacher needs to assess skills learned, they should use a progress test. For the most part, I found the information in the unit to be very straightforward. That said, I was interested to see that the unit provides some inspiration for creative ways to use a test to get to understand additional background information about a student that may help the teacher to be more effective in their lesson planning. For example, if the teacher chooses the questions for a progress test or placement test strategically, they may be able to understand areas of common interest in the classroom. This information could then be used to assist the teacher in creating more effective activities and created materials to use during the course.
