pronunciation is probably the most neglected aspects of English language teaching. phonology is the study , science, analysis, and classification of the physical properties of sounds. in this unit we have deal with stress, intonation, rhythm. intonation is generally considered to be the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence , whereas stress is more concerned with individual words. the normal pattern of intonation in a statement is the rise/fall intonation. fall/rise pattern indicates surprise and often disagreement. there are two simple rules about word stress: one word has only one stress and we can't stress syllables , not individual vowels or consonant. Different words in a sentence have stronger stress and are pronounced longer and other words are weaker and shorter. This pattern of strong and weak stress and short and long pronunciation gives English its rhythm.
