Prior to the course, a teacher should use a General English level test to indicate client?s English level (5 level scale by ALTE: elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, lower advanced, advanced). The next step is to present ?needs analysis? which gives the teacher information on learners? previous language experiences, what they use English for in their job and what they think would be the most beneficial areas for them to study. ?Needs analysis? helps with a syllabus design as well. In the end of the course, the teacher does an assessment: tests (e.g. progress test, achievement test, etc.) and examinations (e.g. CEIBT, LCCI, etc.) and evaluation. From this Unit I?ve got a better insight of ?needs analysis? and different types of tests. I?ve found a sample of ?needs analysis? very useful and helpful (for the future teaching career). Also, I?ve learnt about different types of syllabus.
