When I was watching the first video, I was at first confused. Right away I knew that the first lesson was not effective - so I wondered why it was being shown as an example for this course..then I realized it must be the video of what not to do haha. In the first video, the teacher was very boring, unenthusiastic, a lot of silence, students were not engaged or interested. I have had soo many teachers like that in my life. It makes the material much harder to learn when the person teaching it doesn't seem to care. In the second video, the teacher was engaging and first showed he cared about the students by asking their names. He didn't give them a choice to not participate because he right away put them in pairs. This is a way to include all of the students, no matter what their level was. He started with an activity that they were sure to know , which boosted their confidence and then led into the lesson they were going to be teaching. It was very effective and clear that the students learned better.
