This lesson focused on basic classroom management and set up. Given I have already had some teaching experience, most of it was common sense, but would be useful for a complete beginner. It did give me opportunity for reflection, and particularly points of balancing student and teacher talk times. As I have continued to gain experience, I have found that this is an important skill, but it is developed with experience. It was also useful to reflect on things like maximising student involvement, and using names where possible. While I have found it relatively easy to establish a rapport with my students, sometimes not knowing names of students can damage this relationship. In terms of my situation, I teach large classes (40 students) in an IT room with immovable desks of two students and lots of cables/obstacles, so I often use row seating, pair work or groups of 4. This is definitely an aspect I have no control over, but it is important to be mindful of how it can be improved and how activities can be adapted.
