I have seen a distortion of level in some classrooms. Therefore, a level test is crucial before the beginning of the course in order to make uniform groups of students. We can adopt five-level scale: Starter, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, intermediate and Upper-intermediate. All are related to Common European Framework (CES). Also it is beneficial to plan the syllabus to the course according the students' needs. However, while planning a syllabus, teachers are confronted to restrictions such as timing, materials, school (language school, institute, etc) policy or cultural issues according to the local habits or norms. Generally, the language school provide the syllabus and goals to reach at a certain time. However, if there is no syllabus, it exists different theories to create one. Finally, it is important to assess the knowledge of the students on a regular basis. Moreover, additional tests could be beneficial such as the diagnostic test to evaluate the current level of a group before pursuing the course. For young learners, it exists three types of tests according to the CYLE for students up to 12 years old. The PET and the KET are reserved for older students.
