In this unit the focus was on the Present tense and the four forms that it takes: Present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Although all four of these are technically examples of the present tense, to students learning English as a foreign language these should instead be viewed as separate tenses. This unit was informative as it highlighted how confusing learning tenses can be to students whose first language may only contain one or three tenses. I found this unit quite confusing myself, so I can definitely sympathise with my students. The different sections for each tense however, were well thought out and, once memorised, are incredibly helpful when teaching such tenses to students as they lay out the way each form is used, examples, typical mistakes/errors and some sample activities. The typical errors and mistakes provided are especially beneficial as this allows for an opportunity to think about why students make such errors and, the best way to correct them so as to improve the students understanding. Without prior thought it is easy to see how it would be easy to cause more confusion in correcting such errors or mistakes.
