This unit provides guidelines and tips on how best to obtain ready-made teaching materials or how best to design one's own teaching materials. What I learned from this unit is that teaching materials are of two types - authentic and non-authentic. Each type has both advantages and disadvantages in terms of use. Authentic teaching materials have some attractive features. However, the Business English instructor that wants to use more authentic materials for teaching must allocate greater time (and exercise greater care) for materials sourcing and development since issues of confidentiality, relevance and copyright are probably involved.
