This unit covers the advantages and disadvantages of using course books. The books have been designed and used with great success but rigid, unwavering adherence to the book may well leave the student bored and unenthusiastic about learning. I enjoyed the comparison of created and authentic materials: the different uses to which they can be put in supplementing the students' learning experience and the care needed in choosing, in particular authentic materials, which must be appropriate for the language level of said students. The examples of created materials in the unit were very interesting and, no doubt, will be valuable in the future.
