In this unit I learned that there are a number of different kind of tests that can and should be utilized in an English class. Placement tests are useful for gauging what skill level the students are at. Diagnostic tests are useful for understand what the students do and don't know at the start of the course. Progress tests are useful throughout the course to see what the students have learned and retained. Practice tests are good simulations of external tests that the students might one day wish to do in order to gain access to further education, work, or immigration. Cambridge offers many of these external tests, but not all of them.
