Teach English in Luogang Zhen - Meizhou Shi

Unit 20 Overview A teacher's first period on the job is often very difficult. Many times we deal with a variety of problems in the classroom, many of which are all too common. A good teacher must prepare himself/herself to prevent or avoid these problems, and work to find solutions. There are some helpful teaching methods that can help to create a smooth and productive lesson. We can: 1. Create strong connection between students and between teacher and students by using fun warm up activities. 2. Find more information about students and try to understand what kind of big dreams, aspirations students have and help to increase student?s motivation to achieve it. 3. Conduct each student level assessment by using activities like; survey, ?Tell us about? board game, passes the ball game, etc. Also, in this unit we learn to pay special attention to warm up activities. A fun warm up gets students into \"English mode\" and raises energy levels. Fun activities also produce relaxed, less inhibited students. With the right warm up, we can create a positive atmosphere to practice and experiment with the language. Next challenge is large classes and different language levels. The new teacher can use worksheets, pair/group work, choral repetition or change dynamics to have successful lesson as a large group. We should also make time to explain to student that there are other students with different levels of English in the class and that we will be using partnering and grouping exercises or other activities in order to meet the needs of everyone. Finally, I could understand that many challenges may appear, but we should be always ready to be open for communication and flexibility. Open mind and positive attitude, you will guide us to success.
