I have learned about common problem situations in the classroom and how to deal with them. The first lesson is vital for the teacher to establish rapport with the students and det the tone for the course. When it's a new group, the students don't know each other so the teacher should use some time to establish rapport between the classmembers aswell. The teacher should not use the coursebook, but rathet consentrate on establishing rapport, find out about the students and their needs/aspirations with the English language and with their English language level. It's useful to use warmers like memory games or hangman in the beginning of a lesson to get the students motivated. When the students are at varying levels, the teacher can Split them into teo groups and give them different materials that fits each group or give them the same material, but different tasks. Pair work with one stronger and one weaker student is also useful. If the class is large, worksheets, choral repetition and pair/group work is useful. To use the students native language should be avoided, but the students may use it among themselves to explaine to each other. With students who are relucted to speak English in the classroom the teacher can use pair work, role play, controlled practice and a tape recorder for the student torecord what they would like to say outside the classroom. When difficulties with listening text appear it may be useful to play the tape several times. I feel I have learned that particularly the first lesson should be fun and used to get to know each other, to establish rapport and to get to know the students and their needs.I feel that it's the teachers responsibility to make the students motivated and to adjust his/her behaviour and the lesson itself to fit the students and not the other way around.
