ITTT offers a wide variety of Online TEFL Courses and a great number of opportunities for English Teachers and for Teachers of English as a Second Language.

It was useful to learn what a TEFL teacher should do during the first class with his/her students. Establishing rapport with them seems to be a vital component which helps create a fun and safe environment in which students can learn English. As always, one needs to bear in mind the level of the students, and whether or not these students have interacted with each other before. There are a number of 'icebreakers' one can use to establish rapport with/between the students, such as the 'Pass the Ball' and 'Tell us About' games. Another dynamic to bear in mind is the size of the class. Large classes can pose more difficulties, as it is harder to involve/control all the students. To overcome this, we can appoint group leaders, use group work and use worksheets. The use of the student's native language, both by the students and teacher, should be treated with care. Generally, students will not use their native language to be disruptive, but rather when they are unable to communicate their ideas properly, or when they're trying to help another student. As the goal is for students to learn as much English as possible, the use of English in the classroom should be encouraged. Teachers can also make sure that activities/worksheets are of an appropriate level, so that students do not feel the need to use their native language to complete it. Lastly, as this is the last unit, I wish to express my gratitude in the course you have provided thus far. It has been very beneficial and educational, and I am looking forward to employing what I've learnt into the real world. I think the thing I take away most from the course is the idea of just being logical, sensible and patient with the students, while maintaining a fun, happy and encouraging attitude. The rest, if done/prepared correctly, should take care of itself!
