This unit details various aspects of course development, such as designing a syllabus, course evalutaions, needs analysis and level testing. At the very beginning of the course it is important to give a level test and needs analysis (maybe even in the same day/class) because the teacher needs to know what sort of level they are working with and also specifically what the group of students need to focus on while taking the course (for example, giving business presentations, writing e-mails, talking on the phone, etc.). Once the level test and needs analysis is taken, the teacher can then start to formulate their syllabus. One benificial way to create a syllabus is to look at what the majority of the students want to learn. Allow for 2-3 lessons to be dominated by tests, evaluations and introductions. At the end of the course, it is advised to have the students give feedback and complete a course evaluation form. This will allow the teacher know their strengths and weaknesses through the eyes of their students and will let them see which areas need improvement.
