This unit is about conditionals and reported speech. A conditional sentence contains two clauses, main clause and the 'if' clause, either of these clauses can come first within the sentence. For example, 'I will be happy, if I see him' or 'If I see him, I will be happy'. This unit explains about the five different main conditionals and when to use each one. There is the zero conditional which is an action/fact that is irrefutable, an example sentence would be 'when it rains, you get wet'. Another one is the first conditional which is used when talking about possible future 'real' situations if the condition has been satisfied. For example, if she grocery shops, she will have food. This unit also is also about reported speech. This is when one someone repeats what someone else has said. For example, If john said 'I will go tomorrow' then someone repeated what John said they would say 'John said he would go tomorrow'. In reported speech the tense often changes from present to past or the past simple changes to past perfect, therefore when teaching reported speech it is best to take it really slowly and make sure the students fully understand the difference between talking in direct and reported speech.
