This unit tackled one of the topics I was most curious about both in taking this course as well as teaching in the future which is classroom management. I learned some valuable information regarding my role as the teacher in the classroom and different strategies such as eye contact, gesture and voice that I can use to keep the classroom orderly. Additionally, the unit provided some helpful examples on grouping students (individual, pair work) and arranging the classroom (rows, circles) in order to attain maximum participation and focus depending on the type of activity at hand. As far as maintaining disciple and handling behavioral issues, the most important piece of advice from the unit is to focus on the behavior and not the student. I think that this is extremely important because some teachers tend to do the opposite and it?s essential in keeping a rapport with students and also getting to the root of their behavioral issues, which can provide clues on how to address it in the future. Furthermore, more than one student can exhibit a behavior so this method ensures that students are not singled out and everyone knows what constitutes acceptable and unacceptable behavior inside of the classroom.
