Lesson plans are a great way for teachers to keep on track in regards to what the students should achieve by the end of the lesson. They also act as something to refer to during a class, and a record to look back at in the future. They should not, however, impede the flexibility required to respond to the needs of a class. Every teacher has their own way of writing lesson plans, but there are some basic principles that are often used. A lesson plan should be kept simple as well as structured consistently. A teacher should try to anticipate the time required for each part of the lesson, and make notes accordingly. The plan should account for a balance of skills and each part should fit together smoothly. Lastly, a lesson plan should be flexible. Organization can help make sure a lesson goes smoothly. Before walking out the door, a teacher should make sure that they have their lesson plan. They should make sure that they have any equipment or aids needed, and they they all work. In the classroom, they should make sure to arrange the seating if necessary, make sure the board is clean, and be ready to talk to the students as they come to class. In general, there are many things that should be included in a lesson plan. These things include objectives for the students, personal objectives, the language point being taught, teaching aids used, anticipated problems, activities used, ESA phases, estimated times, interactions, class level, number of students, the date, and names of teachers or observers. In order to improve upon teaching ability, a teacher can and should evaluate themselves and their lessons. This can be done by taking notes during and after class about what could be improved or what worked well. It's also sometimes a good idea to plan a group or sequence of lessons to make sure they all fit together well. In conclusion, this lesson taught me that while some teachers may not use lesson plans, many teachers can and do benefit from using them. Additionally, lesson plans can vary greatly between teachers and classes.
