What I learnt from Unit 12 is about teaching productive skills (speaking and writing) as both are equally important and bring connection purpose between the teacher and students. In term of the accuracy activities (usually part of the study phase) , the language is controlled by the teacher. For example: practice of drilling new vocabulary, guided-role play for job interview (where the output still controlled by the teacher, but the using of the language is controlled by the student). in the fluency activities (usually part of the activate phase) , the teacher should encourage between the students to use a creative communication. For example: discussion of current issues, or debating about the best sports athlete. I also learnt about the type of encouragement for students to speak and interact during a lesson. In my opinion it is really hard for teacher to encourage students to speak because of the cultural issues, lack of confidence, afraid of misspelling words, and maybe not interesting in topic. As a teacher, I should give the students motivation to learns and able communicate with me. In term of encourage students to communicate, I could use the ways of praising them for giving the correct answer, but I shouldn't criticized for their mistake, give the student time to think and prepare for their answer and be friendly toward them . I also need to prepare the lesson carefully (before, during and after) so I could get a positive feedback from the students. In term of teacher to generate interest in a topic, I should try to understand what the meaning of the language, even tough the students was explaining in their native language. Engage the communication about the current issues (news, gossip or small chatter) to get every students attention. Also by playing games or watch video will attract the students to participate. The other skills that students need consider to learn about writing is to have : clear handwriting (readable) , correct spelling of the word, punctuation, and creative writing (poetry, stories and dialogue).
