I have learnt that while managing a classroom it is extremely important to use one's voice, gesture and eye contact to reinforce clarity, understanding, and communication with the class. The use of gesture can convey meaning and manage the class. Eye contact can encourage involvement and contribution. Voice should be extremely clear. Varying the voice and projecting is also helpful. The voice must adapt to the circumstance of the class. Using students names is vital in establishing rapport and giving the class an intimate and personal feel; especially when acknowledging a student. Different class groupings have different pro's and cons and will be dependent on class size and activity. Different classroom arrangements also have advantages and disadvantages. The best arrangement is dependant on factors such as class size and activities. The teacher's position is vital and the appropriate position will change depending on the stage (Eg.study phase) of the class and activity that is occurring. When writing on the board one must use different methods in order to decrease time spent facing away from the students. It is very important that one doesn't speak or give instruction while facing away. Reducing TTT and increasing STT is vital. Giving individual attention is important, it is also important to be fair and equal to all the students while doing so. Building rapport within the classroom and is extremely important. One can start establishing rapport by instructing everyone to create a name tag on day one and engage in an ice breaking activity and continue this rapport by maintaining a relaxed atmosphere and respect with and between every individual. positivity and humor help as well. There are many ways to maintain discipline and the way one reacts to problem behavior is extremely vital. One must act immediately, this can be as simple as stopping for a second and looking at a student that is disrupting the class. It is extremely important for classroom rapport not to lose one's temper or scream or make threats that can't be followed through.
