Pronunciation of words. Ideas of what part of speech a word belongs to. Making best use of the course book. Create a balanced lesson. Do not use it all the time. Do not rely on the information presented. Match the materials given to your students needs. Four approaches to course book use. Omit ( leave out selected part or material in the book either a single part of a lesson or two lessons). Replace (we can replace materials within the book to what we think is suitable for the students). Supplement (supplement additional materials to what is already given in the book). Adapt ( that is use your own style of materials based in the information given in the course book). Materials: Authentic material; Just about anything a native speaker would hear or read can be described as authentic. Examples include newspapers, songs, poems and brochures. Created materials: These are usually designed by the teachers to replace or supplement materials from a course book. Examples include flash cards, crosswords, pictures, stories and work search. Always try to have a balanced between authentic and created materials within your teaching material. What I have personally learnt from this unit are the variety of materials that teachers can use to aid their students progress in the classroom. Also, the differences between authentic and created materials and how to use course books effectively.
