This unit is coverage of the productive skills, what they are, important considerations on and how to teach them. I was able to take in the following from the unit resource: Productive skills - speaking and writing 1)Speaking. Reasons - For some necessity or particular purpose and/or simply to satisfy a desire Subskills - Accuracy and fluency. Both accuray and fluency are equally important and so a speaking lesson will focus on developing both. Accuracy - concentrates on producing correct language Fluency - concentrates on alloing students to experiment with and be creative with the language. ESA lesson activities for speaking accuracy and fluency, depending on the stage could be: Controlled - normally during the study phase where the language output is guided by the teacher. Activities at this focus on correct output of the language, hence accuracy development. Guided activity - used largely in the study phase but could also extend to activate phase. Here, language output is still controlled by the teacher but the needed language is produced by the student. Creative activity - Here, the students are in almost absolute control. Activities at this stage allows experimenting with the language in a creative fashion which is dictated by the type of activate phase activity. Writing skills - penmanship, spelling, punctuation. Types of writing include: Situational (for example postcards, emails, formal letters ect) and creative writing (which may include: story writing, poem, dialogues etc). However, even though writing skills are essential to teach and produce a balance of skills in the language, writing tasks are often averted in the classroom as students would often prioritize speaking to writing. Hence, writing tasks are often completed at home, but checked and corrected for feedback by the teacher in the classroom. Games are also a fun incredient that could add zest to our lessons and make them more exciting and interactive. However games should only be used at engage or activate stages of the lesson. It's a wrong idea to use games during the study phase.
