A good teacher has to be comfortable fulfilling multiple roles in the classroom while adapting to their students' weaknesses and strengths. For example, beginner adults will likely not be lacking in motivation, but will be more nervous about committing \"embarrassing\" mistakes, necessitating a teacher who must be careful about using the manager and prompter roles too generously, since this may cow and discourage an adult learner. On the other hand, teaching a group of intermediate 8-12-year-olds can require more of a facilitator and assessor roles because the children may be fairly advanced but not able to see how they can and are improving.
