This unit dealt with the different types of conditionals and reported speech. I have never learnt about conditionals before. I never even knew that those phrases were called \"conditionals\". We did study direct and indirect speech however, and while I thought that I had a good grasp on it, after doing the test I realised that there are so many exceptions with the way we speak. For example: Jane said, \"I went to Italy last week.\" I will assume that the exam wants me to change this sentence into reported speech after several other weeks have passed. But it does not specify so the sentence 'Jane said that she went to Italy last week' is still valid if only maybe an hour or so had passed between me communicating with Jane and then the third party. Also: Jack said, \"I am having dinner with my wife this evening.\" I would automatically assume that the reported speech would be: Jack said that he was going to have dinner with his wife that evening- I don't know why I would choose that one since, if someone reported to me: Jack said that he was having dinner with his wife that evening, I would totally understand. I will have to study these further. I am glad that this was a topic and my attention has been brought to it.
