In this unit, the 4 past tenses are mentioned along with their usage and how to construct each tense in a positive, negative and question form. Present simple tense is used to express completed activities or actions at a specific time given, for e.g She played football really well yesterday. Present continous tense shows an action or activity that was in progress at a particular time for e.g. she was looking very pale last week. In this tense, -ing is added to the verb. Present perfect: talks about a past action related to another past action that happened before the first action. The affirmative form of this tense is sub+had+past participle. An example of this tense would be ?She realised that she had over cooked the meat when she tasted it herself?. The last tense that is mentioned in this unit is the Present prefect continous tense. The positive form of this tense is subject + had + been verb-ing. Present prefect continous tense is used to tell 2 actions that happened in the past of which one had been continuing at another point in the past. An example sentence of this tense could be; ? They had been looking for their dog for 2 hours before they found him sleeping under the kitchen caninet?.
