Unit 20 talks about potential problem situations that come up for teachers in the classroom and some suggestions for dealing with them. The First lesson should not be taught out of a course book, instead, you should establish rapport, find out about students, their English level, and their needs in the English language. Warmers should be used to motivate students. Games are often used as warmers. Students of different levels in a classroom could be a problem. The two suggestions I would use for this problem would be, do nothing at all, or pair strong student with weaker student. Use of native language in the classroom. This section was most helpful for me. I get frustrated when students speak their native language, and now I know I should not be. I should encourage English, but I should know that sometimes it is necessary for students to speak in their native language. Reluctant students can be encouraged to participate by using role-play, pair work, controlled practice, and use of tape recorder, or recording themselves as homework. This unit was helpful.
