Course materials and their use are key to teaching an English course, and therefore having an understanding of how and when to use them is a key aspect to teaching, a further development of this skill is the critique and selection of materials. I found this element of the course to be particularly useful, as its unlikely you have the ability to chose a course book, its most likely to be inherited. Therefore, being able to critique the content and supplement or replace as necessary is a key skill. Again, the focus on ESA methodology on the course materials is a useful exercise and helps keep the core values of TEFL at the forefront of the teachers mind.
