This Unit is about course materials used for teaching. The main aspect that I hope to remember is that authentic material is not necessarily helpful in a student's development since it can discourage the student in its level of difficulty, and that materials designed specifically for non-native students can often provide better guidance even though they also have certain disadvantages, such as dryness or they could also be anachronistic. So, it is important to choose wisely what course material is used. In some cases using authentic material can help to foster interest but the teacher needs to be aware that authentic material is not always appropriate given that some of it can be unintelligible and therefore demoralizing for non-native speakers.
