A good course book provides us with a well-prepared and tested syllabus, but that does not mean a teacher should use only the course book during lessons, as that would make the lessons dull and predictable. By using other supplementary materials, authentic or created, we can make our lessons more interesting and more suitable to our students' needs and levels. Authentic materials will motivate students in that they are real texts and being able to understand them will help students gain confidence. As for created materials, they are useful because they can be graded to the students' level.
