An understanding of the more popular child development theories can help educators understand how to properly influence a child?s development so that they become one of the successful and responsible adults. There have been many child development theories and these are the four major groups that emerge: The Maturational Theory was developed by a psychologist and pediatrician named Arnold Gesell. His theory says that development is based in biology. He believed that a child?s growth and development are influenced by both their environment and genes, and there is a natural sequence of events. Environmental theory says that people learn through observing others? behavior, attitudes, and outcomes of those behaviors. This theory also explains human behavior in terms of continuous interaction between cognitive, behavioral, and environmental influences. Constructivism is basically a theory based on observation and scientific study. It says that people construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. When we encounter something new, we have to connect it with our previous ideas and experience. It?s important to understand that no one theory addresses every aspect of the way a child develops. For that reason, it is important to gain important insight from each of the theories. Second-language acquisition or L2 (language 2) acquisition, is the process by which people learn a second language. The adults and the children acquire the language in different ways. For example children are still developing their brains whereas adults have conscious minds, adults have at least a first language that orients their thinking and speaking, children have not got, etc. Although we have classified young learners as those at the age of 5 to 13, in order to language acquisition and methodology that should be used we will divide them into two groups. The first group is for the 5-9 years old, and the second 9-13 years old. When teaching the first group we can use the EP (engage and practice method), cause the atmosphere in the classroom will be lively, loud and the teachers should be energetic. When teaching group two teachers can use ESA ( engage, study, activate) which offers students? talking and thinking time, involves teaching, and also use of knowledge. The learning environment is also very important: the circular arrangement of seats is good for students, but isolates the teacher and it is not useful for board writing; the semi-circular arrangement is good for communicative activities; the rows for test etc. Students are able use different skills at different ages , but the two receptive skills are listening and reading, and the two productive skills are speaking and writing.
