At the beginning of this unit, I went over the difference between authentic and non-authentic materials. Authentic materials are materials that have been produced for a purpose other than the classroom, some examples could include brochure, magazine, video, etc. Non-authentic materials are materials that have been produced for the classroom, either by teachers or by the educational company. There can be quite a few advantages and disadvantages to using authentic materials. When using authentic materials, it can be great for business students as the material is usually more realistic and not predictable like non-authentic materials. Unfortunately for teachers, it can take some more time to go over the material, as it needs to be relevant to the lesson, at the students level of English, and will be interesting. Sometimes, it can be a little challenging when finding good material. It is also important to make sure that the materials the teacher plans to use isn't culturally/ socially sensitive and that it is user-friendly. Now, when designing non-authentic materials, there are a couple of factors to keep in mind before preparing the material. What language are the students trying to test or use? How are they going to be used in the classroom? How are you going to show how to use them? and At which level are they to be used?\"\" are all important questions to ask before beginning. When teaching, it is beneficial for a teacher to create a lesson plan prior to the lesson. Creating a lesson plan can have quite a few benefits, i.e. if the teacher is ever sick, this allows the substitute to understand what will be taught throughout the lesson and will be able to teach effectively. It is great to have a copy during the lesson, for the teacher to refer to it at intervals during the lesson. Having a lesson plan keeps things in ordered during a lesson and also allows to keep track of when to switch between phases to ensure that the lesson is taught effectively. Book resources have been becoming more and more useful for teachers, there are two main types of book resources. The first types primary focus is language, this includes the grammar, vocabulary, tenses, etc. The second type focuses on business situations, this type being a little bit more beneficial for Business English. Although, there may not be the possibility of accessing any books depending on where you are teaching, the teacher may be in the position of having to create everything. Using the internet to find resources can also be quite helpful for teachers, it is important to be careful when choosing materials though. Using the internet can be quite useful, but also be careful that the students aren't able to easily access the website, as they can easily gain answers or information to the assigned projects/ assignments.
