Board - White/Black Boards are useful for writing, drawing, sticking on things, etc. The teacher should bear in mind that they should write legibly and neatly so that all students are able to see and understand. They can use different colours, underlines, or circles to distinguish things. 2. Interactive whiteboards - These are smart boards that usually are touch sensitive or detect the movement of the mouse. The teacher should be well versed with the equipment, should have a back up plan, should be properly lighted and positioned. 3. Overhead Projectors - This is an alternative to a board. The lessons can be prepared well in advance, hence avoids turning their backs to the students. 4. Visual Aids - These sometimes are more effective than verbal explanations. It holds the student's attention with the help of memory process. 5. Worksheets and work cards - These are bought from the publishers and are authentic materials. These can be used for reading comprehension and grammar exercises. 6. The Cassette recorder - This has been the most effective tool for teaching the language. It stimulates discussions and helps in student's listening and understanding. 7. CD Player - This is similar to Cassette recorder, the only difference being, that it uses a CD instead of a cassette. 8. Videos and DVD - These holds the student's attention more as they can see as well as hear the videos. 9. Video camera - This is an effective tool during a class activity. The students can replay and analyse and discuss the problems or mistakes. 10. Dictionaries - The students learn the meaning, the usage and the pronunciation of new words in dictionaries. 11. Course Books - These are helpful in evaluating the progress of the students. The students generally expect course books. 12. Resource Books - These are generally used for supplementing the lessons. The student or teacher can refer to these for extra information or for replacing some irrelevant topics. 13. Photocopies - Photocopies can be given as supplementary exercises so that the students have more practice and understanding of the topic. 14. Computers - The use of computers should be carefully done as it may lead students become uncommunicative. Some software also use auto correct for grammar as well as spelling, so the students rely heavily on it and do not remember the spellings or the rules of grammar. 15. Online sources - Online resources are helpful in supplementing the topics or learning new things. Dictionaries, learning materials, literature and poetry, videos, resources, teaching materials, etc are all available online. Thus the teacher should try to blend most of the techniques discussed so as to motivate the students in learning and understanding the language.
