I learned about what qualities make a good teacher. This includes, being fair, caring about teaching, having a solid knowledge base of what is being taught, the ability to motivate studuents, knowing which teaching method to use and when, the ability to engage students, and caring about the students. I also learned that there are several different roles of a teacher. Theese roles include being a manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, model, and an observer. The second part of this unit was about the student or learner. I discovered that good students have several things in common, including a desire to learn, the willingness to experiment, being accepting of correction, and a willingness to ask questions. I learned that students can be categorized by their age; students can be adults or fall into one of three categories of young learners including, very young, pre-puberty, and post-puberty. Depending on the age of the students and also their cultural background, they will demonstrate different levels of motivation, expectations, language levels, behavior, and life experience. I learned that there are various levels of language understanding that a student can have, they include beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate, and advanced.
