I learned how important it is to be enthusiastic and excited to teach any given lesson. No matter what the subject is, the students react based upon how you are acting during the lesson, and will only learn most effectively if this is the case. I see how you can move through the different phases of ESA smoothly and involving a different mix of activities and tools so that the students can understand fully and the lesson is best explained (the teacher in the second video used pictures and elicited different animals that the students already knew and then smoothly moved into the study portion of the lesson where the students used what they already knew--animals-- with the \"can\" and \"can't\"). It is clear what you shouldn't do as a teacher from the first video. You have to be clear, but also approving and just showing that you are happy to be there. You should not sit and ignore students as they work. You should say \"good job\" when a student answers correctly, and provide a better explanation if you can tell that the students are having difficulty with a concept that you are trying to teach. Even though a straight arrow lesson plan worked in this case, you have to be open to modifying this if you see that the students need more activation or even more studying if they are having trouble with the concept.
