I leaned in this unit about the basic rules of modal auxiliary verbs and what the modals are. Some of the modals are can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, and ought to. modals can be used to express ideas like obligations, possibilities, permission, and abilities. They also can be used to express ideas of formality, and usually the most formal modal used is the word may. This unit had a chart of all the different modals which really helped me see the differences in them are how they are used in sentences. Passive voice is another things mentioned in this chapter. There are two voices used in English which are Active and Passive. Another thing mentioned in this chapter is relative clauses which are a group of words containing a subject and a verb. There are three categories of clauses which are independent, dependent, and relative. The relative clause was discussed the most and I learned to understand what it means and that there are two types of relative clauses. They are called defining and non-defining, and these relative clauses are used differently based upon commas. The last thing I learned about, is Phrasal verbs which consist of a verb plus one or two particles. There are three types of phrasal verbs and the best way to teach these is by vocabulary items.
