I have learned a lot from this course, as expected. Because I had already taught for a year, it was very easy for me to relate to the course material and contrast what was being taught with what I had done before. It became very clear to me in the early stages of this course that I did not do enough planning during my time as a teacher. Though the lesson plans assigned throughout the duration of this course were tedious, they became easier and easier. One specific example I can think of is when the school I worked at was required to teach one open class where all of the parents could sit in. Many of the teachers who had taken a certification course knew how to plan a very engaging lesson and had a lot of ideas; whereas, I became stressed out and did not know where to begin. Looking back, I feel like I can construct efficient lessons not only for an event like an open class, but for every class. By taking this course I feel like I will be a much more confident and competent english teacher and I am excited to go abroad and try out my new skills. There were countless points brought up over the duration of this course that I had not thought about such as how my actions as a teacher will influence the rest of the class. I plan on returning to Korea in the next few months to teach older students and I am excited for the challenge. I will use my new knowledge to be more effective and fun in the classroom.
