I am currently teaching kindergarten students in Shanghai, China. It has been interesting for me to do this course as it has made me analyze the classes I am currently teaching. Studying TEFL has made me appreciate the structure of the class (particularly with young students) as it is important to engage them and have their full attention. I am much more aware now of the different phases of my lessons, such as engaging the children with an introductory activity, introducing new vocabulary and sentences in the ?study? phase, and then often putting these new words and sentences into an activity or game to reinforce the new material. It has made me appreciate how young learners can absorb information so well, and that they can learn the material for its meaning and value rather than making a translation from the chinese they already know. The ITTT TEFL course has equipped me with knowledge, resources and ideas for me to further improve as an EFL teacher.
