We have learnt a lot of useful, effective and practical information from this course, more than what we had anticipated. We realized that the way we were taught and even our own teaching methods needed to be refined. We learnt about the qualities that a good teacher needs to posses in balance, the different teaching methods that result in students understanding the different subjects and how or why it is important to plan our lessons. We appreciated the use of our physical presence as teachers in the classroom, when and how to give feedback properly and how to engage, motivate and activate the students. We also learnt of the different levels of the students and why it is essential to pay attention to this. The most interesting part was that of grammar. We were taught grammar in a way we had never been taught before- it was easy to understand and we were not intimidated. We were able to see how to teach grammar in a simple yet effective way that does not overwhelm the students. We plan to put this information to good use when we start our TEFL career. We hope to improve in our teaching methods and be able to plan lessons in an effective way that helps us as teachers to be organized and to manage time appropriately in class. On the engage and activate stages, we plan to use activities that the students will enjoy and that will imprint the lesson in their minds, hence achieving the goal of effective teaching. We would want our students to be relaxed in class, to enjoy the lessons and not to overwhelm them with information. We would also like to be like our instructor Pippa, who gives useful, practical and effective feedback when appropriate.
