I am most grateful for the grammar lessons. english is my first language, but my family moved to France when I was 7 and I never learned about english grammar. Surely that is the biggest asset I?ve gained from this course. Although my first ESL teaching assignment involves only Oral english, I am sure that, at some point during my teaching career, I will make use of these newfound grammar skills. I really appreciate the insights into teaching an ESL course. I?ve taught classes before during the course of my maintenance career, but they were mostly geared toward the profession: safety courses, machine operation, repair courses and the like. Usually my students have some background in the subject matter and I am only bringing new information to them that they can assimilate into their already vast store of knowledge. Teaching english overseas will definitely be a challenge. I intend to refer back to our course materials often. They are concise and well written, and give great ideas and examples on how to teach the various aspects of the language. I am especially grateful for all of the Activate ideas and all of the links to online resources. I also intend to use the lesson plan template. By now it is comfortable and familiar to me, I can see myself using one for every lesson that I plan. In time, I?m sure I will hone the skill of lesson planning and make the absolute best use of it. My first teaching assignment starts in 2 months in Wuhan, China. Prior to facing a classroom full of expectant students, I will peruse the campus? library for available ESL teaching materials. Finally, I have to really thank my tutors who have been patient, supportive and kind. Chris, Neil and Tara have all been champions at long distance education. They have answered my questions and addressed my concerns thoroughly and in a timely fashion. They are my role models as I step into my new career. Their prompt assessment of my work and their sending me the next unit quickly has kept this course moving at exactly the pace I needed in order to finish before I leave America.
