This course has taught me how to critically analyze a language that I use in my day to day living. I?ve also learned how to talk to people in a way that requires less of my mouth and more of my non-verbal communications. That, combined with a new understanding of phonetics means I can help to keep a balance between writing in english, and talking in english. Using these new skills, I can better teach my students without too much use of tedious texts and confusing directions. One of the problems I experienced in my previous foreign language courses was how much emphasis was placed on writing and how little went into speaking. Thus, while I can write somewhat proficiently (it?s been a while!) in japanese, I have a gigantic amount of trouble with forming the sentences to speak it.
