What I have gained from this course is the importance of a positive outlook and preparation in the classroom. The outlook you have can consist of your level of enthusiasm, open mindedness and optimism. The ?outlook? of both the teacher and the students are to be considered. The teacher?s expression towards the lesson and the students can then set the tone for the entire class. It can help to create a relaxed, supportive and fun environment or a strict one e.g. when there are any behavioral problems. A teacher?s optimism and open mindedness can mean he/she will find and try different ways to interest and motivate the students to learn. For the students, a positive outlook in class means they are willing to learn and to interact with each other and the teacher. One?s outlook can result in the willingness to try new ideas or learn new things, and this is essential to the teaching and learning of any subject. Preparation is also as important, especially for the teacher. Being prepared means having knowledge of the subject you are going to teach, the materials you need and thinking ahead for possible problems and their solutions. If the teacher is prepared, he/she can help prevent disciplinary problems while also knowing how to deal with these problems if they should arise. A prepared teacher can properly teach, guide and assist his/her students. A prepared teacher also imbues in the students a respect and confidence in his/her ability. I will make sure to have a positive outlook in the classroom. I will show interest in the students and find ways to get them motivated. My enthusiasm and optimism in the class should hopefully produce in the students, a similar outlook on the course. When it comes to preparation, I will think ahead of what language items and materials may be needed in the classroom. When necessary, I will use the course book and tape recorder et cetera, in order to effectively teach the students. I will strive to be the best teacher I can be; this is through the planning, review and revision of every lesson, showing an interest in the students and by varying the activities and ideas in the classroom.
